SELF PROTECTION
Violent encounters are unpredictable, unforgiving, and indiscriminate. Anyone can become a target of violence at any time regardless of age, gender, race, size, etc. It is crucial to understand this in order to properly protect yourself if in a situation where someone is trying to hurt you. Common thoughts that we generate in an attempt to deny this truth such as, “it will never happen to me”, “I live in a nice neighborhood”, or “I will be able to recognize and avoid bad guys”, are dangerously misleading and only put you at a greater risk.
At Kong Han we train our students to recognize different types of violent encounters and how to appropriately respond in order to protect yourself and your family within your legal rights. Many people believe that preparing for a violent encounter is unnecessary or somehow equal to inviting violence. We view training to protect yourself as an insurance plan; most people do not question the importance of having medical insurance, car insurance, and home insurance because they recognize the fact that things happen that are out of our control. So why don’t we view developing the skill sets to protect your life against violet encounters in the same way?
We utilize a principal based approach to self-protection which is more realistic than practicing a multitude of specific techniques that only work in specific, and often scripted situations. We help our students develop the awareness, and mindset needed to ensure their personal safety by teaching avoidance and de-escalation practices, followed by techniques which will ensure survival through preventative action rather than reaction. Training consists of situational analysis and slow realistic practice so that safety is always prioritized without compromising real results.
